Since I was a girl, natural objects and their textures have fascinated me. I've always loved finding tiny objects, whether in a forest or on a beach. Now I incorporate these items into my work, mimicking their organic qualities or directly impressing them into clay.
While not all of what I make is expressly functional, objects which are intended for use connect beauty with everyday life. I'm excited by the thought of family and friends gathered around a table eating from my bowls and dipping into dishes over conversation, or relaxing in front of a fireplace with hands wrapped around Illyria Pottery mugs. I hope the objects I make join everyday rituals, making those traditions just a bit more lovely.
I started my own shop, because it gives me the freedom to create and display all the ideas that I'm interested in, rather than being bound to one look or style. I also enjoy having control over the design of the environment where my pieces are displayed.
I opened Illyria Pottery in Greenville, South Carolina in 2008 and moved the business to Oxford, UK in 2013. I have a Bachelor of Science in Art Education and an MA in 3-Dimensional Studio Art. From 2009-2010 I was the artist-in-residence at The Gallery Upstairs and Torquil in Henley-in-Arden.
